How to tie a rope halter with a fiador knot.

I've found many different ways to learn how to tie a rope halter with a fiador knot. Below you will find the very first set of directions that I followed. Not only did it take a long time to get the knot right, if your horse doesn't have an average size head, then you have to tie it over again.

Connie Nygard instructions for make a Rope Halter with Fiador Knot

My first attempt to tie a horse rope halter took me several times to complete. My horse Mousse had a long face and a Roman nose so the halter from these instructions was way to small.

I couldn't tell you how frustrating it was to tie that fiador knot, and then to have to re-tie because the halter didn't fit.

I then bought the book "Halter-Tying Success" by Diane Longanecker. It was a good start, but I was unhappy about how loosely the halters fit.

This is why I created The Perfect Fit rope halter worksheet.

Because tying a rope halter is hard enough to begin with, you should at least have a halter that fits when you're done.

The worksheet walks you through how to properly measure your horse and how to use those measurements to make the perfect fitting halter the first time.

Just click the image above to sign up to get your free worksheet. Then print it out and follow along with me as I show you how I tie rope halters in the short video below.

Below is a breakdown of the easy way to tie the fiador knot.

Since I go kinda fast in the video and this is a challenging knot, I've broken down the steps you need to take to tie the fiador knot in these photos below.

Do you need some quality rope for your halter?

I recommend using polyester or nylon yacht rope, but I know that it's probably hard to find locally when you're just learning how to tie a rope halter with a fiador knot for the first time.

So make do with what you have and when you're ready for a pro halter you can order some rope from me or another online supplier.

Ready to buy now? Head on over to my shop and purchase approximately 20 ft of polyester yacht rope here.
